The Fairtrade Foundation is the independent non-profit organisation that licenses use of the FAIRTRADE Mark on products in the UK in accordance with internationally agreed Fairtrade standards.
The Foundation is the UK member of Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO), which unites 21 labelling initiatives across Europe, Japan, North America, Mexico and Australia/New Zealand as well as networks of producer organisations from Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean
Our four key areas of activity are:
1) Providing an independent certification of the trade chain, licensing use of the FAIRTRADE Mark as a consumer guarantee on products
2) Facilitating the market to grow demand for Fairtrade and enable producers to sell to traders and retailers
3) Working with our partners to support producer organisations and their networks
4) Raising public awareness of the need for Fairtrade and the importance of the FAIRTRADE Mark
A fairer future: more than 7 million people in Africa, Asia and Latin America benefit from Fairtrade - farmers, farm workers, and their families.
Changing lives: the Fairtrade premium, an additional sum for community development, is used by farmers' groups to build schools, provide clean drinking water, pay for sickness benefit and pilot organic conversion schemes to help farmers work for the future.
