Andrew Cates
Chief Executive
Hello and welcome to the SOS Children's page.

We are the world's largest orphan charity caring for over 60,000 children in 123 countries. Children who have been orphaned, abandoned or whose families are unable to care for them.

Children live with their SOS Mother and family in unique SOS Children's Villages.

Through schools and training centres, we work to provide children with education and skills they need to become independent and contributing members of their local community.

Community development programmes provide important medical, skills training and counselling services to help strengthen families and keep them together.
Giving children a family for life
SOS Children's Villages
An average of 15 houses make up the SOS village, which is part of the wider, local community. It is a permanent home for children which provides security and support as they grow up.

Youth Houses
Offering a stepping stone to independence, SOS Youth Houses, enable teenagers to learn responsibility for their own time, school work, household tasks and money.

Schools and Nurseries
SOS Schools and Nurseries are open to children from the village and local community, providing access to learning from an early age through local teachers.

Vocational Training Centres
Centres equip people of all ages with the practical skills they need to earn a living and lead independent lives.

Community Programmes
Specific assistance is given to communities, including child and grandparent headed families as well as those affected by HIV/AIDS. Families are better equipped through training and micro loans for example to provide for their children and stat together.

Medical Centres
Immediate treatment is offered throug SOS Medical Centres, where medical support is scarce or non-existent. Longer term care is also provided through preventative and palliative care.

Emergency Relief Programmes
A strong local rooting means SOS Children is often one of the first NGOs to provide immediate assistance in times of war, crisis or disaster.
